Rise of Athena: All Female Valorant Tournament

Due to restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, my peers and I hosted a 2-day online event for our Public Relations Campaign Strategies class on Facebook under the page, The New NRML. The campaign garnered massive coverage and participation from both Valorant players and news platforms alike. The main aim of the tournament was to encourage the growth of female participation in competitive gaming and to increase the social presence of The New NRML on Facebook.

The tournament invited both Malaysian and Singaporean female players to compete for a prize pool worth up to RM3000. Every single aspect of this tournament was organised by us, the students. Prominent responsibilities include sourcing sponsors, official commentators, and liaising with players from the two countries.

The official sponsors of the event include Predator Gaming (Acer), and OffGamers. Support was also given by Love Earth Organic, HYPE Clothing CO, and KITAMEN. The event pulled in thousands of concurrent viewers, and the giveaways were well received by the audience in the live chatroom during the livestream. Rise of Athena was also able to achieve massive success through media coverage from esteemed news platforms such as Free Malaysia Today, SEAGM, Cilisos, and KJC esport, to name a few.

YOUth Media Official: Podcasts and Video Content

Not just restricted to written media, YOUth Media Official produces audio podcasts on Spotify, and videos on TikTok and YouTube as well. I had the pleasure of participating and recording 2 podcasts, 3 TikTok videos, and a 16-minute long video on 3 artists with different positions in the art industry. The variety and diversity of the topics discussed in these various types of content has helped boost the visibility of YOUth Media on social platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Industry Project with Lumix Malaysia

For my final semester of college, I had the honor of engaging with a staff from Lumix Malaysia with the task of creating a communication plan to improve engagement on Lumix Malaysia’s Facebook page. While the details of the project are confidential, my team and I had pitched a 1-year communication plan. It consisted of 7 intensively researched and detailed plans to increase the brand’s engagement on different platforms, primarily Facebook. The client was immensely satisfied and there were no criticisms given because it was deemed a flaw-proof plan. This was regarded as a huge feat as it was never done before by students before us.

This was one of the biggest projects I have worked on in college and I had the privilege of being appointed the leader by my fellow peers. I determined my team members' strengths and weaknesses, and assigned them to tasks that would best suit their capabilities and limits. In doing so, everyone was able to pull their own weight and the project was a major success.

ESMOD Fashion Shows, Kuen Cheng High School, Sunway University

I was able to truly test my makeup abilities when I offered my services for 2 ESMOD Fashion Shows in Kuala Lumpur, that granted me the opportunity to work with student designers and professional models in the fashion industry. The shows exhibited ESMOD Kuala Lumpur’s graduating batch’s pieces and the school had hired an agency for its models. The experience was unlike any other; I was even able to befriend several models in the process as well.

Aside from fashion shows, I have worked with secondary and tertiary students from Kuen Cheng High School and Sunway University for their shows in 2019. I had the chance to interact and communicate comfortably with individuals of different stages of education. These makeup events were one of the reasons why I decided to pursue communications as I was proficient and enjoyed interacting with others in both a professional and creative manner.
